Game On logo ‘Alternate Reality Games: Multi-Platform & Multi-World Design’
In this talk Christy Dena will provide an overview of the pervasive gaming genre of ‘alternate reality games’. These games use multiple platforms, have a high degree of narrative and gameplay and an immersive aesthetic that works towards being as indistinguishable from reality as possible.

They are commissioned by major corporations, created by independents and employed in education and training. After an overview of the various techniques used, the session will move into a workshop where an ARG schema will be created in 1 hour.

Nokia “Watch Out! Behind You!”: Transmedia Entertainment circa 2007
Transmedia entertainment is about stories and games that are expressed across a variety of media platforms. They surround a person: popping up on the Internet, television, mobile phone, newspaper and beyond. The core drive of such pervasive forms is to create a world that exists beyond the media it is delivered on. Media becomes a gateway rather than the final destination. This talk will explore exemplary examples of transmedia entertainment, including Alternate Reality Games. In particular, this session will outline Alternate Reality Game design and general cross-media interaction design principles. How mobile technologies have been integrated into these worlds and their potential future roles will also be discussed.

AFTRS ‘Everything You Wanted to Know about Blogging’
Blogs about communicating with friends, reaching potential customers, having your say, engaging with associates, developing communities of practice, branding, standing on a soap box, making money. Its all of that.

A blog is a website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order. Blogs often provide commentary or news on a particular subject, such as food, politics, or local news; some function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic, and are part of a wider network of social media.

Christy Dena is an preeminent blogger. She writes a number of highly regarded blogs and runs a popular research blog: www.Cross-MediaEntertainment.com. In a fast paced 60 minutes Christy will explain what it is, how useful it can be, how to do it, and explain that is not a dance done by people in wooden shoes.

What is all this talk about Convergence, Multi-platform, Transmedia, Cross-Media and 360 Content? Is it really relevant to you? Yes. Every creator — whether you’re working with print, film, television, stage or digital media — needs to know about the pivotal paradigm shift that has occurred in audiences, industry and artists. You’re not in the business of creating a single work anymore, you’re in the business of creating worlds. This can be done with flair, artistically and effectively or…not. Christy Dena, LAMP mentor, cross-media strategist, writer and PhD candidate in the area, is presenting a special seminar this Friday on Cross-Media Entertainment. She will provide current-state detail and bestcase examples of: What is Cross-Media Entertainment; Why you need to know about it; Who else is doing it; When you do it; How you do it; Where you can find out more.
